Does a gigabit nic make any difference on a low volume web server? Or is that something the host is requesting? -----Original Message----- From: Richard Zimmerman <csxt@xxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, October 21, 2008 14:15 To: Free Geek Michiana <frgeek-michiana@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: [frgeek-michiana] Colo server update Being I forgot to order the gigabit nic for the colo server I got that done today. I'll have it tomorrow. Tom, As soon as I have the new nic installed, the server is ready to go to the colo location. It's not configured for email, web yet but that all can be done after the colo install. As I recall, I had it all configured in 1/2 day on the first attempt. Time to call the colo to let them know and get the ip information from them. 2u rack server 4.2g cpu w/ 2 gig ram 10/100/1000 Intel Pro nic. 300watt power supply (single) Debian Linux OS (Lenny 5.0) System will have two nic's in it I'll have the motherboard nic blocked with a dummy plug. They will cable the expansion nic. I just need to know if there is anything else that needs setup network wise before we send it off. Thanks!
