i will say this publicly: in certain circles it is the accepted practice to
take a percentage. generally speaking, it seems more prevalent in the
haredi/orthodox circles than others. you should be getting raises for a
variety of reasons and not just you bring in more money. and if you aren't,
then you need make some decisions about the kind of place you work for.
and, added to that, if your bosses insist that "all fundraisers are taking
a percentage" then:
- they are wrong
- they are very very wrong
- they need to be educated in the ethics and morals of non-profits
- you need to see that you are in a no win position
others can probably add to this list.
as for "almost everyone is taking a percentage and the orgs are calling it
salary" - no, not at all. a salary is set regardless of performance.
(obgviously, after the first X period of time, one can negotiate a
different salary, but again, it is not done as a percentage of funds
raised.)
and lastly, if your boss is recommending that you become an osek patur, he
is trying to save paying various fees. the general rule is that an osek
patur doesn't charge VAT on work done up to 100,000nis annually. and this
does NOT include income received via a salary slip (tlush). so, even if you
became an osek patur, you would still insist on remaining an employee of
the organization, and he saves zero.

stipulate a fair amount - 50% of one month's salary (or whatever). but
