Yes, except in *very* limited cases (JD Salinger perhaps :-)?), I would think it actually decrease book sales. I can't imagine that the public would turn out in the same numbers.

Just read it, Norman. I guess it *could* catch on, but it eliminates the
schmoozing with the public which is half the reason for the author's book
tours to begin with.
