Like I said, let me know when someone does all of this. I've never needed it so bad that I automated it properly. This would mean itterative use, and of course things could change from 1 execution to the next. What about reading from a pipe, and using 'nawk' and 'getline()' to feed the 'som' execution? Might have some possibilities. Also, I tried the redirected input, and 'som' got a fatal error trying to get terminal characteristics. Apparently the '-i' option bypasses that. William C. Output can then be redirected with the '>' character and it doesnt look for terminal stuff. The output is a bit scrambled, but I expect an 'nawk' program could sort out what you want. som -h prints out a short help menu. (I didn't try 'rsom'.) Good luck. William C. Ricker FeedForward, Inc.
