Seems our IT dept uses "solar winds", which is licenced and overkill, but they
suggest Nagios Core, which is share ware.
This could help with network problems, it doesn't tackle other system alarms,
but it's certainly usefull.

Dirk

Hi Tadeo,
The DCs hasn't got netsight manager. I'll check with the IT guys.
Sounds interesting.
Thanks & Rgds,
Dirk

Do you have Netsight Manager?
If you configure the traps, you can also configure scripts to be executed when
a trap is triggered (ie. link down) and switch an alarm block for the switch.
That will turn up in the process alarms *CAD*.
That is only for the switches case.
Remember that in some cases the switches reboot faster or a link goes down/up
faster than the device monitor takes to declare it failed. So you might have
switches problems and they are not even recorded on smon (or Foxray for that
matter). Thats why Netsight is useful.
Regards

Hi list,
I/A 8.7 with ZCP/FCP270
We've had an issue recently with a redundant A2 Mesh switch going down,
causing a network burst 5 hours later. Our plant was "blind" for some 20min
due to this event. Luckily no losses or damages. Invensys service responded
very fast, providing a replacement switch, and everything was soon back to
normal.
Now for my question:
Our control room operator didn't notice the red blinking sys button because
it's blinking most of the time. (we have some time synch errors on profibus
FBM's which we can't find any solution for). Off course in the ideal world no
system alarms are generated, but a 20 yr old plant isn't exactly the ideal
world....
Invensys doesn't really make any distinction between system alarms, yet some
of them are "harmless" and some require immediate action.
I can use a query in foxray to filter on "SYSMON -00043 Equipment failed" or
something similar and send an email to engineering, but this is useless
outside office hours. I can buy some fancy cell phone messing stuff or I need
to find a way to tell the control room operator to call engineering when a
certain system alarm exists. I prefer the latter, but basic I/A doesn't have
anything which can do that it seems.
I'm currently checking to see if I can have our Cisco Call manager, which has
a sim box connected to it, to forward a mail as an SMS to a designated cell
phone number, but no idea yet if this will work.
How are you handling this?
Thanks & Rgds,
Dirk
