Except, when 'y' is a vowel as in: why, rhyme, thyme, rhythm, etc.
I agree with using "an" vs. "a". But, why is 'y' so unusual? IDK.

Because it's English. Kinda like cobbling together a control system from
different vendors with gateways 'n such.
I learned my vowels as "A, E, I, O, U, sometimes Y and W"
(Look up "cwm" in a good dictionary if you don't believe me - it's pronounced
"koom".)
My problem is when to say "a" like "uh" and when like "ay".
I think it'll take quite a few beers to get to the bottom of this conundrum.
