Hmmm. A similar Excel spreadsheet was developed here to aid in the rollout of an Aspen PIMS system. Doesn't sound all that hard on the surface. I'll take a look at that sheet that was developed here to see if it does anything like what you want. I don't personally have a use for getting it into Excel (I prefer the Unix text-processing tools), but if it isn't difficult, why not? Your HTML suggestion is something I want to do sometime in the near future. I was thinking of converting the iccprt output to XML, so the presentation would be independent of the data, but that may make things much harder -- I can barely spell XML, much less fathom the intricacies of such an implementation. Incidentally, what is the proper way to submit files to Cassandra? I have a couple short scripts that might be useful to someone. I've certainly downloaded plenty of stuff from there... :) Corey Clingo Sr. Engineer BASF Corporation Winston Jenks <winston@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> on 10/11/2001 01:41:42 AM Please respond to foxboro@xxxxxxxxxxxxx To: foxboro cc: Subject: [foxboro] New projects for idle minds Dateline: 29,000 ft over west Texas List, There were a few items that came up at the User's Group Engineering Tools breakout session that I think we (read: computer savvy list-reading folk) can help out with. Two that come to mind as I leave are: 1) take the iccprt output and put that into Excel, one sheet per block type, one block per row in each sheet. OK, I've got the data as separate text files, one per block type, but would like to put that into the format of a single file that Excel will read (which contains multiple sheets). .DBF comes to mind (can you do multiple sheets that way), SYLK is another possibility (I have never messed with that), or last on the list, some VB code to read in all the text files into separate Excel sheets. Any ideas? 2) Take the iccprt output and turn it into HTML with connections turned into hyperlinks. This is not a new idea--it has been mentioned on this list before (but I can't remember all the good things it did while I am here on the plane). However, the goal is to do it for free! In a nutshell, here is the plan. a) Generate the iccprt output (easy) b) Create HTML templates for each block type(think of it as a Detail page) c) Replicate the appropriate template for each block, inserting data from the iccprt output where appropriate d) Make connections in the I/A hyperlinks in the HTML. e) Other good stuff using the plb dump tool and sequence code. Guess what? a) through d) are already done! I am not all that creative (or useful) with HTML, so I just make a spartan CIN template for testing, but hey, it works. See http://www.capesoftware.net/~fox/wflive.zip It works on my Cygwin shell, I have not tried it yet on my AW. Unzip the thing, and run "nawk -f iccparse.awk <your_iccprt_file>" You will get a bunch of HTML files for the CIN blocks. As you add templates for the other blocks, you will get those too. This is big enough that it needs to be a collaborative effort -- We can build in the "bazaar". I will look into how we can get that started. If you are brave enough, step up to the plate. 3) Oh yes, one more thing. I volunteered to take any Foxboro FAQ submissions and turn them into HTML for the Cassandra Project. I would expect these HTML pages to end up on the Cassandra site. Who should I send the pages to? Is that you Duc? Submitters, just send me a text that looks like this : q Your question goes here a Your answer goes here. You can include HTML tags in here (actually you can include HTML in the question too, but don't) There that is not so tough. If you still don't get it, try http://www.capesoftware.net/~fox/faq_template.html I won't check the answers for correctness, just take them and get them published. If you send me something put "Cassandra FAQ item" in the subject (without the quotes and with the spaces. I will filter these by subject, without the proper tag I may not see it right away. DO NOT send the submissions to the list! Send them directly to me. ___________________________________________________________________ This list is neither sponsored nor endorsed by The Foxboro Company.
