I have always taken this to mean that R L (and C) are part of the field =
circuits. We may need to consider them when using ac voltage. Note =
that the dry contact input version in the documentation does not have =
the RL box in the circuit. It would be an extremely rare installation =
to get into trouble with dc or dry contact FBM's.

Installation manuals for "other" manufacturers do discus the issue of =
false contact conditions. You need to know the cable capacitance and =
length and the OFF - GREY ZONE and ON parameters (mA) of the FBM.

If you do not want to go through the calculations, and you are using a =
PVC insulated cable bundle for the FBM217 and ac voltages, you should =
limit your cable length to less than 200 feet in order to avoid false =
contact sensing.

My humble opinion
Use it if you need it
A load resistance may be required if the contact is solid state or has
an LED/Lamp across it=3D20
Even a small amount of leakage will prevent the input turning off
In the 8.1 doccumentation there is a small note in the 219 section
stating RL not needed for propper operation of the channel

Content-Type: text/plain;
 charset=3D3Dus-ascii
Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Those of you out there that
get involved with the field wiring of modules have you noticed the "RL"
circuit on the TA's for FBM217 and FBM219?

I can find no documentation on when you need to use an "RL" or what to
use. I have looked through B0400FA and the PSS for the FBM217. I also
called TAC and received no great enlightenment, just to look at the PSS.
The PSS's only enlightenment was in most cases no additional
conditioning was required.

Does anyone know where to find any kind of documentation on the subject?
