Re: [foxboro] Changing Windows I/A 'fox' user password?...

In Windows versions of the I/A Series from V5.x through V8.4.x, the issue is
that certain services run as the user "Fox" and must have the "Fox" password
stored in the login attributes of the service.

If you change the password for "Fox," the services will not be able to start on
reboot.

In theory, you could change the password on every box and change the login
information for all the services. However, doing this without making a mistake
is difficult.

In V8.5+ Secured, we support adding Domain Controllers (and Active Directory)
on the system. As part of that work, the services were re-worked to run as
"local system" which eliminates the password dependency. If you move to the
Secured version of 8.5 or later, you can change the password to your heart's
content.

Though I've never tried it, I suspect you could change the password freely on
each V8.5 Standard workstation with good results. Still, maintenance would be a
serious pain.

I hope this helps.

Hi Kevin,
It's V7.1.4 ... is it different for V8.x?

Barry
