apologies for any repeat emails...

Friends –

This is a follow-up to the previous discussions regarding the
Commitment Form for the Floridians Against Fracking Coalition.

After receiving feedback from multiple individuals, and in particular
participating in several conference calls with our friends at the Conservancy
of SW Florida, we worked to revise the form in a manner that kept the integrity
and definition of our previously informal group, and ensured the integrity of
the tenets which had been discussed and agreed on multiple times with the other
members of our coalition. That said, there were plenty of areas where the
letter could be and was improved. Please find attached the new and improved –
and final- letter for your consideration.

Here are some of the improvements:

1) While maintaining the focus on
fracking, a word which drives meaning for citizens across the country, we made
it clear that all forms of unconventional drilling using fracking chemicals are
unacceptable

2) Explicitly stating that fracking is currently legal
in the state of Florida – the Coalition has acknowledged from its inception
that we cannot rest by defeating bad regulation but must continue to work until
fracking and unconventional drilling is permanently out of consideration for
Florida.

3) Changing our language to clear up misunderstandings
around the permits in Collier County

4) Cleaning up wording and typos throughout the
document

We do have a tracked changes document which details the
changes. Please reply to me (not reply all) if you would like to see it.

Meanwhile, I have been thrilled to see that the boots-on-the-ground
work of the Coalition, and our partners continues! In NW Florida, our members
have been making headway. In Marianna City, a resolution is being considered
next month. In NE Florida, work is moving forward to pass resolutions in St.
Johns, Duval, and many coastal towns. In Central Florida, Orange County will be
considering an ordinance. And we can’t forget the exceptional news coming out
of Bonita Springs in the form of an ordinance, largely the responsibility of
the Conservancy of SW Florida and Stone Crab Alliance. Finally, we all feel the
urgency in Broward County, where a new company has asked for exploratory
permits in the Everglades.

The Coalition seeks members that are clear on the strategy of seeking
a ban on fracking in Florida. But we have always worked side by side with other
groups who have different tactics, or just simply cannot join the coalition for
one reason or another. As we move forward, we must endeavor to remember that we
are on the same side, and to work together as much as possible as we seek to
stop this hazardous practice.

If you would like to join the Floridians Against Fracking Coalition,
please fill out the attached form, and send it back to us, or use this online

If you do not, that is fine – please let us know how you would like
to participate!

If you are a part of an organization and would like to have more
influence over documents and decisions, please talk to us about putting a
member on the steering committee!

Thanks! And may we be successful in our endeavors!
