I kind of hesitate to answer, Penny, since everyone varies so much and honestly it's very gradual.  I seemed to do better with it than many of my friends.  While I stayed at the farm a week (?) since everything was on one floor there, I was able completely take care of myself as soon as I got home from hospital - spent 2 nights there.  I think I did have some kind of cloth thing to help get my leg out of bed at first but I took myself to bathroom and dressed myself etc etc.  I had laid ahead some easy stuff to just nuke in the microwave etc etc.  My brother brought me a sandwich from town once or twice.   I remember spending hours with ice bags on my leg but the only thing I pretty much remember asking help for was that I had put some things ahead of time on the very bottom shelf of the fridge and then between my leg and the walker, I could not find any possible way to grab ahold of anything from the very bottom shelf!    I got stir crazy and homesick too so after maybe 4 or 5 days I had Brady pick me up and drive me home and I hobbled upstairs to take a shower.   It's kind of a gradual thing....but you have that strong Pretzel Blood and you_can_ do it!!!!!!!!!!   You mentioned needing to have your entire lower leg fixed because it was crooked and affected your hip also - so does that mean you are having more things done than just a basic knee replacement?  If so, that would probably involve more recovery??

Penny, you have a good memory!  My new knee arrived way back in 2015.  I think they already have better ways of doing them too - plus EVERY patient's experience varies a lot so I don't know that I can tell you much!  Yes, I did stay out at the farm house a while but only because at my house, my bathroom and bedroom are on the second floor while at the farm there is one bedroom and a "potty" on the first floor. It wasn't too long until I could do the "toddler step" on my stairs (one leg at a time on each step).    Facing any surgery is unsettling (at least to me!) but just think how great it will be once it's over and done.

My grandmother used to say often, "It's hell to get old".  Now I know what she was talking about.  Please feel better soon, Penny.

I’m sorry you are in so much pain, Penny. I hope you’re surgery appointment will be moved sooner. May 10 is a long time to wait yet.

Is it correct that your daughter is in Ukraine? I hope she’s safe!  Dena has a Security company in Ukraine she had lots of people working for her. It is NOW CLOSED. SHE COULDN’t risk her. Employees lives. There is no more office there. She resides in Amsterdam with her husband it is very scary.
She has lived in Ukraine since she graduated from college 52 years ago.

We just booked our flights to Italy for a trip we've had to postpone twice! We'll be there 2 weeks ( first half of May). Four nights on Lake Como. 4 on Lake Garda, then 4 in Cortona, our home away from home in Tuscany. We're going with another couple, our best friends and travel buddies.
I AM SO EXCITED!
