I think Jess S and Stephanie W made the cards. Micaela T or Christine R may
still have some cards, too?

I think I understood it similarly, yes - enrollments are down and there are
spots in several grades but we also have an interest in keeping/attracting a
diverse set of students/families interested in the school over time, as we
strengthen it and bring it back to thrive, not just survive. That's certainly
how I approached distributing flyers: Attempted to distribute so as to attract
more low-income families, families of color, immigrant families, etc.

Kat,

I think this is an important question. My understanding is that there are
still waiting lists for many (if not most) grades but that they have gotten
significantly shorter over the summer, as a handful of families have left the
school and some others have declined spots they were offered.

That said, as I understand it the enrollment push was suggested not to increase
overall enrollment, per se, but to increase the number of kids from the
neighborhood surrounding the school who were enrolling at Southside. This was
based at least in part on a desire to change the overall demographics of the
enrollment pool, which has been become whiter and more affluent over the past
years. Obviously there are lots of complex issues at play there, and I'm not
inclined to get into it over email, but I do think that these are things we
need to be actively talking about.

If others have a different understanding of how this was initiated, please add
or amend as appropriate.
Emily

Why is there a huge push for enrollment right now? Are there a lot of
openings? My housemate has two kiddos who are on the waiting list and have
been waiting for a year to get in.
