One copy, multiple pointers. Single Instance Storage (SIS) it is called.

Subject: [exchangelist] same attachment copied to multiple recipients

http://www.MSExchange.org/

Hi,

If a user sends an email with an attachment to multiple recipients on the
same Exchange server, does each recipient get a separate copy of the
attachment in their Exchange mailbox, or does the Exchange server store just
one copy and let each user have at the same file?

Presumably, eventually each user gets their own private copy when they
download into Outlook, I am curious what happens between the time the sender
sends the attachment and the recipients download it.
