It is not required that the client is a part of the domain.... But is the client on the same network as the exchange server, and is the exchange server reachable through DNS? Those are the two first things to look at. Also, outlook will by default use the credentials that were used for logging on to the client....You can disable that in the outlook settings... Edit the exchange profile, and find the security tab....Try using the option 'always prompt for user name and password'.... and possible, (not sure about this) change the 'logon network security' to 'password authentication'...
