How do I turn on just SMTP logging?

It seems like I could start with some information and if I don't get the
answer there I could look at more information.

Agreed

Just thought I'd throw out another source for some smtp command logging, but
ethereal/netmon would be the best for this type of thing in terms of
accuracy.

exchange 2003

Is there a way to log and view a log of the actual commands that
exchange sends and receives during an exchange of email?

I can not send email to 2 companies but can send to anyone else.

I can use Telnet to open a SMTP session with their email server and I
can send an email that way.

I am trying to figure out when in the process the error happens. Can
anyone tell me what logging or monitoring to turn on to see this.

I get a 7010 event error in the event viewer but it is just a
xexch500 command followed by a 504 need to authenticate first and Microsoft
says that is normal and should not stop the email from going through.

       Thanks
