Query-based DL

So this is a little unusual.
I have created a Contacts folder in my Public Folders. It is used to
provide internal users with contact information for a large number of
external customers. We have added a specific field identifier to help
build the query-based distribution lists. But how do you point the query
at the public folder? Is that even possible? Any ideas are welcomed.
