Hi there,
First ping does not tell you that SMTP is working.
The best toll is to run "telnet server_FQDN_NAME 25". If you can see a
response from the Exchange that means that you can communicate via SMTP.
This command you can run even from the UNIX server. If this is not
successful don't kill yourself with other things.
Second is a good to have a Internet ail Connector defined in your Exchange
2000. This will allow you to receive mail from Internet (UNIX box).
Third you must make sure that Recipient Policies (Default)contains your
SMTP address with the domain that you have defined for your Exchange 2000.
