RE: Assistant Field Not Shown in Cache Mode or across child domain boundaries

The assistant field not being in OAB may be by design. Although it this
KB article does not specifically mention the assistant field, given that
not all attributes will be available in OAB vs the online GAL this may
more than likely be the case. As far as metrics I've never done one for
pre-post cached mode after consolidating. All environments I've been in,
we used online, cached mode was too much of a nuisance.

A3: The Offline Address Book is a snapshot of the Active Directory
directory service information that is available in the global address
list. Therefore, some information is available in the global address
list that is not available in the Offline Address Book. The Offline
Address Book does not contain the following items that are available in
the global address list:

*

Custom properties in Active Directory that an administrator has added
(for example, the Employee ID of each employee)

*

Organization hierarchy information

*

Group membership information

Outlook must be able to access the server to obtain this information.
Therefore, if you are in cached mode and if you are working online (that
is, your connection status indicates "Connected"), Outlook uses both the
Offline Address Book and the global address list to provide a complete
listing of user information. If you are in cached mode and if your
connection status shows either "Disconnected" or "Offline," you can see
only the information that is available in the Offline Address Book.

Subject: Assistant Field Not Shown in Cache Mode or across child domain
boundaries

The fact that the assistant field is not contained in the offline
address book which is used when a client is in cached mode seems
unacceptable to me when working in a large global enterprise.

Has anyone dealt with this issue and or have a work around to getting
that attribute to be displayed when in Cached mode?

Also does anyone have any good metrics in regards to performance of a
client after Exchange consolidation to a central site and the client
being in cached mode as opposed to non-cached mode?

Thanks,

Ion
