To: Members & Friends of the East Valley Astronomy Club
The East Valley Astronomy Club will conduct our May meeting this Friday
evening (tomorrow) - May 17th. Sorry for the late reminder. The meeting
will take place in the usual location - the Shakespeare room at the
Southeast Regional Library in Gilbert, beginning at 7:30 pm. Our meetings
are a terrific opportunity to catch up with friends, and to make some new
ones. We have quite a few new members, so please take the opportunity again
this month to find someone you do not know and introduce yourself. They
will appreciate it, and you will meet another interesting EVAC person.
This month's speaker is Dr. Chad Trujillo, an Assistant Professor of
Astronomy at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. Chad's specialty is
the search for near planet sized bodies in our own solar system. Chad is
the co-discoverer of the dwarf planet Eris, and was on the team that
discovered the mysterious body ultimately named "The Goblin." His talk this
Friday will cover the discovery of the Goblin, the search for more objects
like it, and the search for the hypothesized giant planet that may remain
undiscovered in our solar system - Planet X, sometimes referred to as Planet
9. This will be a terrific presentation, one that you will not want to
miss.
Please remember that this Friday will be a final opportunity to purchase
EVAC logo apparel - see David Douglas for more information. Make sure to
use the north entrance of the Library facing Guadalupe Road since the
library will be closed at meeting time.
