From: Sharon Tzur <sharontzu5@xxxxxxx> Subject: matkonet Dear Teachers: In subjects (such as History, Biology, etc.) in which students are tested piecemeal during the year and then tested at the end of the year on all the material (in a "matkonet" exam), it makes sense to give that exam more weight - especially if the student does well in it. In English, where every "unseen" or "writing" given during the year is just as much a reflection of the student's knowledge as another, it doesn't make sense to give more weight to a special "matkonet" exam at the end of the year. We give exams throughout the year and base our yearly grade (tsiun shnati) on that - as well as giving 30% to lit, book project, and a few points added or subtracted for attendence and homework. Yours, Sharon Tzur
