Dear colleagues,

as we gird up our loins for the start of the school year,

I read this out at our first staff meeting, and it went over quite well. It was
suggested that other teachers may also enjoy it.

(To be read out loud with all possible dramatic effect.)

On The Occasion Of The Beginning Of The School Year.

                                                                        by Ben
Sommer

And so, we meet again,

We select band,

We noble few,

To go forth and do

What we must do.

We?ve had our rest,

Those empty days

With naught to do

But rest and laze.

No student smiles,

No sweet, bright eyes,

No little tricks,

No screams, no cries.

But fret no more,

Their time is near

And that is why

We?re gathered here.

How good to see you

Here once more,

A noble goal

We?re fighting for.

We work together,

Give support

At those moments

When distraught.

The helpful smile,

Sympathetic ear,

They are all

O, well found here ?

The tender heart,

The gentle tear?

Our task?s not easy,

The conditions fraught,

Oft we feel crabbed,

Confined and caught.

Yet there is strength

To help each other

And thus we be

True sister and brother.

Well met! Well met!

The future?s bright.

Let us go forth

To our good fight!
