**** The NBA Poll - www.etni.org - Have you voted yet? ****

Tvia Whatever the daughter of Shimon Peres
It wasn't a complete failure in the US - It experienced many problems, many
similar to those experienced here. There is no such thing as teaching Whole
Language OR Phonics Based. It has to be a mixture. Both have their
validities. Both have their flaws. A teacher is a being with a brain and has to
take what she or he knows and pick and choose what is good for his or her
class. As for Whole Lang and Hebrew, Hebrew is a totally phonetic lanaguage so
obviously the emphasis should be on phonics, with some of the principles of
Whole Language applied when learning reading comp strtegies. Engish is not
phonetic so after learning the phonetic base, whole language principles should
be incorporated even at the level of acquisition.
Barry, I know this was a joke, but it hit a nerve...
