You may not be aware but Israel has just become an eligible country for the
European Union Lifelong learning programme (covers kindergarten to Adult,
including University, Vocational etc etc). This is most probably the largest
education programme in the world at about 1.3 billion Euros per year. You
can see the programme through the website of the EU Agency at
http://eacea.ec.europa.eu/index.htm

This is a very difficult programme to get involved in requiring networks of
partners across Europe, deep understanding of the priorities and rules, plus
a complete appreciation of the bureaucratic requirements of the programme.

The advantageous of involvement in these projects are huge and include:

§ Professional development, working with professionals from across
Europe

§ Getting involved in the forefront of thinking and practice in
language teaching and learning

§ Utilizing technology in languages

I am now in my 14th project within the programme and would be happy to help
any Israeli institution to get involved. Below I am including details of
some of the language projects that I am or have been involved in and what
resources are open for you.

ARGuing project – motivating secondary students to learn languages - The
project has developed and piloted a massive and very successful Alternate
Reality Game called the 'Tower of Babel' to 'Engage', 'Motivate' and
'Excite' students to learn languages using the new possibilities that the
Internet age offers us. This project is a global first in using this type of
game within languages. The project has produced a 'game platform' and a
complete methodology. see http://www.arg-education.eu. Video:

Don't Give Up – motivating adult language learners. Too many adult language
learners drop-out of language courses, the Dont Give Up project has written
a book with 48 motivational best practices designed to inspire adult
learners to complete their language courses. see http://dontgiveup.eu/

Autonomous Language Learning – blended learning language courses. Has built
state-of-the-art Blended Learning language courses in four European
languages (Turkish, Romanian, Bulgarian, Lithuanian) at A2 level. see
http://www.allproject.info/ Printed materials available. Course materials
online.

Chain Stories – Intercomprehension to inspire and motivate. The Chain
Stories project is for students, in their first year of language learning.
They can enjoy creative writing in their mother tongue. They then pass on
their story to other schools, within a chain, for completion. see

Ongoing project:

EduComics - Using web comics in education. This project is examining and
building case studies and methodologies on how digital Comics can be used to
enhance learning and motivation to learn. see http://www.educomics.org/ - a
comic software is available through the website that can be used in language
education.
