Subject: new program - moodle

I haven't posted for a long time, but I want to tell the community
about a new program available to teachers called Moodle.

If your school is using Mashov, than you have Moodle. You just have to
ask your principal to turn to th Mashov people and ask that Moodle be
opened up. If you don't use Mashov, you can still work with Moodle,
because it is an open program, but you'll have to have your computer
people look into how to get it. Using Moodle through Mashov is easiest
because all your classes and groups are set up for you.

So what is Moodle? It is an open source program being used world wide
to help teachers easily set up an online site to go with the courses
they teach. Of course, you can post files, URLs and even video clips -
but that is nothing. The big advantage is that you can post
assignments for students to do - writing, quizzes, even group work. If
you set up a quiz with closed questions, then the program checks the
quiz for you and keeps the grades.  You can decide what weight to give
each assignment. If you give a writing assignment, there is one format
that allows you to check and make corrections in-line. You can decide
if students can then resubmit.

If you have mashov, you can import grades from moodle into mashov.

Work you prepare (like a quiz) can be copied from course to course -
so while it might take some time to develop material, once you have
it, it is there forever.

It is really ideal for doing log work. You can see exactly who did
work and who didn't. Students who missed a lesson can make up work at
home. And everything is there on computer - which can be accessed from
anywhere.

If you google "moodle" you will find lots of info on the web about the
program, including clips in youtube showing how to use it. Highly
recommended.

*Yours,

Sharon Tzur*
