 Hi Etnians,
I have been a lurker for many years but somehow I feel that I have to
speak up after the discussions about the NBA. Many of you complained that 3
exams on one day is too much - I agree with you, but I never dreamed of
having my pupils take all exams in one day unless it is a special case , a
special pupil that chooses to do so. I believe most pupils always found it
very difficult to sit for 3 hours and write an exam, so in fact I was glad
when the NBA allowed them the opportunity to split the exam. Why not have 5
point pupils do module E end of G11, module F winter of G12 and module G
end of G12? The same could be done for 4 point pupils (C - end of 11, D winter
 of 12 and E end of 12).
The problem here would be the border line kids - these could have a
different arrangement such as doing module C in winter of G11, Module D
end of G11, module E winter of G12 and modules F and G end of G12.
As for checking intelligence ... I don't know. I would prefer to call
it cognitive ability which most pupils should have at a 5 point level.
Considering the fact that we are supposed to be using a skills based
approach in our teaching, it is my belief that these are the abilities
 that the tests will evaluate.
Wishing all our students, and us :-) good luck with the NBA!
