Sixteen birders in 11 parties participated in the Lake Lure CBC on 1/4/22.
A total of 66 species were found, including 3 rarities that eBird
categorized as "Unreported" for the area - Fox Sparrow, Palm Warbler and
Common Yellowthroat. And of course there are always misses. This year
waterfowl were limited, both at Lake Lure and at the farm ponds around the
circle. And we missed House Sparrow, though maybe we shouldn't be too
unhappy about that.
The circle includes lots of nice woodlands, agricultural fields, and lake
habitat in Rutherford, Buncombe, McDowell, and Polk Counties. We'd love to
have join the count next year.
