I slept in this morning and had to convince myself to head over to Beaver
Lake at 10:00 a.m.. So glad I did. Within a few minutes of getting out of
my car I heard a Golden-winged Warbler singing along the edge of the
wildflower meadow. The male bird alternated between it's Type 1 and Type 2
songs. Eventually the bird popped out of the jungle of vines and shrubs
and allowed Tom Tribble and I to get some great looks. I followed it
around for over a hour and managed to get a few photos that are terrible
but confirm identification. See attached.
Also, had a couple other FOY birds: Gray Catbird and Eastern Kingbird.
Hopefully it will be a good year for the Golden-wings in western NC.
Good birding,
Clifton
