Two intrepid birders braved the 15 degree wind chill and snow showers to
attend this morning's BRAC walk at Jackson Park. It was actually quite
birdy, picking up 27 species in our short hour of birding. Best species
were a group of 3 Gadwall foraging in the ponds and a Brown Creeper we
watched feeding in the pines. Many of the other passerines were feeding on
or near the ground keeping out of the wind and staying close to the
relatively warm ground where food was undoubtedly more plentiful. That
resulted in great close looks at Rusty Blackbird, Hermit Thrush, Bluebird,
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Phoebe, among others.
Good birds and no frostbite. A successful morning walk!
