This mid-week update is a little different from most (although there have been a coupla posts that touched on the subject) in that it's about a visit Freud (the photographer and writer of the verbiage on the photos) made to Granite Falls High School in the Seattle area.

In particular, he visited Micheal Werner's Manufacturing class which has kinda gone WAY beyond original expectations.

There are two teams (boys and girls) who built cars (in the loosest sense of the word) to compete in the Shell Eco-marathon: http://www.shell.com/home/content/ecomarathon/. The boys' car was too heavy and was disqualified...but ironically was the only two-seater and was used to give the Shell big-wig a ride around the track. IIRC, the girls finished 3rd in their class and won the "safety award." This year they're shooting for 678 mpg. Unreal.

They boys are putting their car on a diet and plan to be "rules legal" for 2011.

Both teams are building a car that will run on the salt flats at World of Speed in September....that could be one of the most fun salt flats events for me, ever if all the planets line up.

Anyway, here's the url. It's (as usual) pretty darned kool.
