Ian, I have read heaps either prompted, recommended and/or supplied by this
wonderful list but have always followed up book recommendations from
friends; some work for me, some do not - as with us all. globe.

Books supplied by Trish, Clare, Shell and others, with many, many more
waiting in the wings.

Among them are two by L. M. Montgomery; many Rumer Godden and Noel
Streatfield after being discussed soon after I joined. "Tiny Sunbirds, Far
away", "The Cuckoo's Calling", Some of the Cousins War series by Philippa
Gregory, "To Serve Them All My Days", "Land Girls", to name but some. Other
such as "We Need to Talk About Kevin", "Wolf Hall", works by Peter Robinson,
Peter James and Mark Billingham, and "Year of Wonders" I had read before I
joined the list.

My book diary lists "Forever" by Pete Hamill from last year; could that be
the same book? I loved it.

So yes, many books listed and some read and, like others, notes often made
for future reading.

What a gift to a bookworm.

Elaine

Subject: [ebooktalk] FOLLOW UP ON BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS

This message is also by way of a test as I've been getting sporadic service
from this list both in terms of receiving and being able to send messages.
But here's what kicked off my train of thought. Before going on holiday I
asked for recommendations for a good long book to read. shell not only
recommended one, she sent it to me. It's Mary, a novelised account of the
wife of Abraham Lincoln. Because just after that the David Peace book
became available to me, I didn't take the book with me. But I'm about to
start it now. This lead me to wonder whether anyone had acted on
recommendations from the list and had either good or bad experiences. Did
anyone ever read Evermore by Peter Hamil? I wonder whether Clare or anyone
else picked up Delores clayborne? And are there any other examples of
recommendations? I'll report back on the book I'm about to start.
Provided, that is, the list will allow me to do so.
