This is a good example of what teams are doing when they are out of
competition season and how they communicate with everyone.

Our formal season is over but our team continues to reach out to the
community and show off what we are capable of. We are extremely proud of our
recent accomplishments and we enjoy showing off our new trophies and medals.
We had an awesome time at the Championship in Atlanta, Georgia. It was
really fun to meet people from all over the world and compete with all of
the best teams. The FIRST organization has awarded us another prestigious
award which is the website excellence award. Congratulations to Alex
Fischoff for doing an incredible job with our website and being a valued
member of our team!

*JPL OPEN HOUSE*

This year, JPL has scheduled their open house event for May 19-20th. This is
a free event that promotes Science, technology and really cool stuff. It
runs from 9-5 on both days and is the only time that the public is invited
into the area to view the interesting displays from JPL and other
affiliates. Many of the Lab's scientists and engineers will be on hand to
answer questions about how spacecraft are sent to other planets, how
scientists utilize space technologies to explore Earth and how researchers
are now searching for planets beyond the solar system. Visitors will see
exhibits, displays, demonstrations and presentations about new technologies,
solar system exploration, spacecraft communication and much more. In the
past, our robotics team had their robot on display. This is a very unique
opportunity and anyone that is interested is encouraged to attend.

*REACHING OUT TO THE COMMUNITY*

[image: board meeting 4/07]*OUR MOST RECENT PRESENTATIONS*

Recently, we had the opportunity to make a few presentations to our
community. On April 9, 2007, We were invited to the Rotary Club of Beverly
Hills and a few of our team members enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Beverly
Hills Hotel, showed off their awards and showed a video presentation of our
program. This was a great opportunity to explain our program and we received
a warm reception. In addition, on April 24th, 2007, we also made a team
presentation to our School Board. We discussed our roles in the robotics
program and we showed a video montage of some of our highlights. Our robot
had just returned on that same day so we were finally able to show it off to
our community. On May 6th, we were invited to display our robot and
distribute information about our program at El Rodeo School at their
anniversary event. The response to our program was incredible. We played
games with the kids who showed up and even allowed some older students to
drive the robot.

*UPCOMING DEMONSTRATIONS *

We are very excited to announce that the BHHS Robotics Team will be
displaying our robot at two upcoming events at our local schools. On May
24th we will participate in the Open House event at Beverly Vista School and
on May 31st we will be at Horace Mann School for their Open House Event. We
are actively trying to start some Lego League Robotics Teams for the younger
students and will hand out literature encouraging the formation of new
teams. Our high school students will act as mentors for the new Lego teams!

*BHEF CLASSICS FOR CHARITY CAR SHOW*

[image: mercedes]This year, our entrepreneurship class headed by Eileen
Kahn was heavily involved in the planning of the BHEF Classics for Charity
Car Show which raises much needed funds to support our schools via an
education foundation. Our team attended planning meetings and did everything
from making the artwork for the event (Thanks Gav Dorian) to volunteering at
the event. The event, which was held on April 15th, was a success and raised
over $50,000 for the BHEF. Some of our team members returned from Atlanta at
9:00am and went directly to work at the car show as volunteers.
Congratulations on a job well done!

*UPCOMING CHARITY EVENTS*

Many of our team members enjoy earning community service hours by giving
up their free time to help out with various causes. This May and June our
team is participating in two worthwhile causes. First, we are running a
Spare Change Drive for The Muscular Dystrophy Association. Beginning on May
21st, team members will collect change for two weeks and hope to raise much
needed money for research in order to erradicate this insidious disease. Our
team is touched by the fact that one of our own team members is afflicted
with the disease and we would like to make a positive contribution in his
honor.

In addition, our team will also be participating in the Relay for Life on
June 9-10. All funds raised during this 24 hour event go to the American
Cancer Society. We hope that our community will generously support our
fundraising events for these good causes.

Please keep up to date with us by visiting our award winning website and
checking out our blog and our new pictures.

*MORTORQ TV*

[image: tv nicole]Be sure to watch out for our new episode of Mortorq TV
airing soon. Episode 5 was filmed at the Atlanta Championship and is fun and
entertaining! Be sure to check out our Mortorq Monkey in his first music
video! Special thanks go to Matt Wunderlich and Andrew Buckley for all the
time and energy it takes to produce the show. All aspects of the show are
handled by our robotics team members who are learning new skills and are
having a blast while doing it. Mortorq TV is also available for viewing on
google video and on itunes as a free download.

Team 1515 is grateful to be supported by so many wonderful people. Our
program would not exist without the generosity of our community and our
corporate sponsors. Walt Disney Imagineering, The Beverly Hilton Hotel,
Mercedes-Benz of Beverly Hills, The Beverly Hills ROP program, New Pacific
Realty Corporation, MOOG Aircraft Group, The Rosenblatt Family, and the BHHS
PTSA are all vital to our program.

Special thanks to Roy McKee from the LAPD Bomb Squad and to Michael Gustason
and Michael Gordon from WDI who joined us in Atlanta and helped us out
tremendously!

Thank you to the Atlanta Travel Team: Avi, Angel, Alex F., Adam, Asa, Ben,
Brandon, Colleen, Daniel, Eugene, Jason, Jesse, Nicole, Zach, Willie, Gav,
Eric, Andrew, Matt, and Shauna! You should all very proud of your behavior
and your accomplishments.

We are grateful to our PTSA for financing this fabulous newsletter.

BHHS robotics is funded solely by donations, corporate sponsorships and
fundraising. All business aspects of the program are run by the Beverly
Hills High School ROP Entrepreneurship classes taught by Eileen Kahn. If you
are interested in supporting our team either as a mentor or as a financial
contributor, please contact Eileen Kahn at eileenkahn@xxxxxxxxxx
