[duxuser] Re: need help with Simbraille

In the Word Options menu (Office Icon - Word Options, or hotkeys Alt, F, I)
and 'Proofing' (third menu item down), there's a section for 'AutoCorrect
Options...' (hotkey A). The option to change straight quotes to smart quotes
is the first entry under "Autoformat as you Type".

Hope that helps!

I figured that out but in word 2007 I can't find the replace as you type
menu.

Hello Ann.

You probably have the "smart quotes" feature turned on in Word. If so, turn
that feature off.

Here's what has probably been happening. When you enter a quote, Word turns
it into a different character. Since that smart quote character is not
represented by dot 5 in the computer braille mapping, you are not getting
the dot 5 in the Simbraille font.

Best regards,

Caryn

I used to be able to use the quote key on my keyboard to enter a dot 5 in
Simbraille Font, but now it is just showing quotes rather than dot 5. Does
anyone know of another way I can get dot 5 in Simbraille Font in MS-Word?

If you want to kill a perfect good Index embosser, upgrade, but at
your own risk. It is safest done with qualified help to hand.

Moreover, the "Add Printer Wizard" does NOT work properly with Windows
7 - official!

As for their "Download Manager" - again at your own risk.

To add to this, see today's thread mentioning 64 bit drivers - or
rather the lack of.

Sorry - but we've been dealing with Index embossers for over 20 years
now, and have learned to bench test in all manner of ways before we
release to clients.

Don't get me wrong - they are good embossers, but need treated
carefully.

George.

I have found the Index "Add Printer Wizard" usually resolves the
problems where plug and play does not find the correct drivers -
although I have not tried this for W7.

You can get this wizard from the Index site by downloading the
Download Manager - use this link,
http://www.indexbraille.com/Downloads/Software/Drivers-and-Utilities.a
spx

It may be worth upgrading the Basic's firmware. The current version is
12.03.4 and has much better plug and play support. The utility for
upgrading the firmware is also provided by the Download Manager.

I finally got Windows to recognize where it was... The problem I am
now having is that it gives me an error message saying the drivers in
that folder aren't compatible with a 64 bit OS.

Hi Alyssa,

When adding the Index, point to c:\program files\Duxbury\[DBT
VERSION]\Drivers\Index AB.

I just got a new laptop with Windows 7 installed. The mother board on
my previous one fried, and unfortunately, I lost all programs I had
saved on it. Anyway, I have DBT installed, but I cannot get the
drivers for my Index Basic-D installed. The manufacturer does not seem
to have updated their drivers, so the download manager offered on
their site does not work. Would anyone happen to have these drivers
off list they could send me? If not, is there another way around this?

By the way, the embosser has 10.31 firmware on it in case that makes a
difference. J Thanks.
