Hi Tina, That very much depends on what exactly you mean by, "our line of work". For low volumes, and where you don't have nasty deadlines to meet, then hardware-wise there are many good low cost flatbed scanners out there. However, THE major secret, whether you buy cheap or expensive, is the software you use. That is where I do not believe you should compromise in any way. Go for the absolute best you can afford. Personally we use Abbyy Fine reader, Corporate Edition. If you do have tight dead-lines to meet, you could consider something like the Kodak i2200 which we had to purchase when we had over 2500 photocopied legal documents which had to be brailled in a great hurry. This scanner scans double-sided from a sheet feeder, at something between 20 and 40 pages a minute, depending on resolution. It wasn't as expensive as we'd expected - around £500 or $800 in real money. That said, the Abbyy software was vital for many reasons, especially since you can teach it to correct consistent errors. It's all down to time and money at the end of the day. George W F Bell (Managing Director) Techno-Vision Systems Ltd 76 Bunting Road Ind. Est.
