Affan:

The method I suggest below for copying and pasting text from one program to
another, should only be used with plain text files.

I would not, under any circumstances, recommend or suggest, copying text from a
Word document and pasting the text into a DBT document. The reason is, that
you will increase the likelihood of including format codes, that are obviously
understood and known to Word but are completely meaningless to DBT. Use DBT's
Word importer to import Word documents because it knows what format codes to
keep and which ones to throw away, in order for the text to make sense in DBT.
In addition, depending on the template you choose, DBT will apply styles to
format the text, based on certain criteria.

Now to the nitty gritty

As the file you are importing is a text file, the only format codes you have to
worry about are carriage returns/line feeds and form feeds, if any.

Open Notepad or some other basic text editor.

Load your text file.

Press CTRL+A, to select all the text in the file.

Press CTRL+C, to copy the text to the clipboard.

Press WINDOWS KEY+M, to minimize all applications and give focus to the Desktop.

Press the letter D, until DBT is highlighted.

Press ENTER, to launch DBT.

Create a new document in the print editor with the template you wish to use.

When the cursor is in the edit window, press CTRL+V, to paste the text from the
clipboard into the new document. You should see all the backslash characters
before all the words where you expect to find them.

If you press ALT+F3, to switch to "Coded View", the only format codes you
should encounter are [<], for hard returns and [pg] for any hard page breaks.

It would be nice if DBT had a text importer that would import text files, as
is, without attempting to impose styles that the programmers thought
appropriate, given certain criteria.

HTH

Sincerely:

Dave Durber
