hi Kaye,
Sorry yo are having problems but don't worry it can be fixed. Your daughter and
son n law I would assume must have set up a Ancestry account for the DNA
results to be sent to. Ask them to log in and then click on DNA at he top of
the page then on the top right hand side under where it says account they will
see a link to "settings". Click on settings and scroll down to the bottom where
it says DNA Results Access and click on add a person. Tell them to enter your
email address and they can choose to allow you to be a viewer or manager. If
they aren't interested in genealogy they might as well make you the manager.
Then they click on send invitation. As simple as that. Onc you receive the link
in the email and you accept the invitation you will be able to look at their
results. In the future when you log into ancestry and click on DNA at the top
of the page you will see a link at the top right hand side next to settings
"View another test" when you click on this you will be able to chose which test
results you wish to look at.
Also under settings is the link to download raw data, which I assume your
daughter has already done if she sent you the file. If you wish to upload her
data to gedmatch and also your own and your son in laws then this is what you
would upload to gedmatch if you wish to use that site as well. Now you have the
file on your computer you then go to
www.gedmatch.com
On this log in page you will see under the log in section - Not registered?
Click here. Then on the next page put in your details, name and or alias email
address and a password. Then once you have an account (it's free) and you are
logged in you will see your details on the left and on the right you will see
Raw DNA file uploads, choose AncestryDNA com. Click on this, you can upload as
many files as you want so you can upload your own, your daughters and your son
in laws and you will be able to manage all of them yourself. Fill in your
daughters, son in laws or your own name and an alias like initials if you want,
sex etc and if you know heplogroup you can put this in or leave blank because
if they have only done an ancestry test you won't know it. Then chose the file
from your computer of the person whose DNA you are uploading and then upload.
Then sit back and wait for it to upload. You will be given a gedmatch number
for each test that you upload. You can also upload a gedcom file to gedmatch as
well to help people find how you might be related (wish more people would do
this, it would certainly be a help.)
People who have done tests with other companies such as familytreeDNA, 23andme
etc can also upload their DNA data to gedmatch which means we can compare our
data with others besides people who did the Ancestry test.
Hope this helps
Sharon
Can I warn people to be aware when ordering DNA tests for family history.
I ordered and paid $300 for DNA tests for my daughter and son-in-law.
The test kits went to them and they sent them in. But when the results cameback, they went to them although I had ordered them.
