I think perhaps what people are saying in this thread is that they
would like to have access to the limited plugin, as they personally
would not be extremely bothered by the limitations.  Especially since
the problem is not arising from dokuwiki, but from a limitation in an
external product...

At least it sounded like you had something that worked, just not for
the entire dokuwiki audience.  That makes it a poor candidate for a
default package, but I would think as long as it is documented as to
how it works, and what its limitations are, that it would still be a
win since then at least -some- people could use the functionality now.

Just my 0.02$ as a person who is interested in using this with the caveats.

No, it's definitely not. I.e. the Euro sign is not part of ascii, none of the
umlauts (which are heavily used in German), nor accented vowels (e.g. in
French), no Æ, æ, Ø, ø, Å or å for Danisch, etc.
