I would say this have something to do with the browser rendering.
Specifically, this is breaking the line as a hyphen in English:
https://www.w3.org/International/articles/typography/linebreak.en#sec_hyphenation

According to https://stackoverflow.com/a/7691604/4073795 , you can use
the non-breaking hyphen to workaround this.
