This has nothing to do with the OS that the web server is running on,
it's a feature of the browser that pages are viewed in. Our dokuwikin
install is running on linux -- looking at pages in it on a Windows
machine, IE can handle links to \\server\docs\foo.doc, Firefox can't
(without an extension). I forget what happens on Safari, but I don't
think it's anything useful.
(unless you want to have some sort of weird install where part of the
dokuwiki install is on a windows share relative to the web server, and I
really don't think that's a good idea)
