No offense taken Roger.
It turned out that the version of the DLL on the problem box was a later
version that the DLL on my development box. I updated the problem box, and hey
presto - it now works.

no offence but it could help telling us what version of Unzdll.dll you are
using.
On the other hand the Unzdll.dll has not been changed since long time,
The latest version have been build using Borland C++ Builder both 5 and 6
it depends were you get them from, so I don't see any relation between
Delphi and the dll versions
Since you talk only of Unzdll.dll it is your application that should find
the dll's
load them and test if they are really loaded.
In the latest version of TZipMaster a separate class TZipLoader has been
used
can be found in the \VCL dir of ZipMaster in ZLibLoad.pas
it could help you controlling the dll's
