Dear Community Members,

This month, Mayor Bowser proclaimed Monday, July 25, 2022, as Nelson

the many ways Mayor Bowser asserts that her commitment to Washington, DC's
African immigrant communities are receiving a #FairShot is demonstrated in
her daily investments.

DC's African immigrant community. The forum will be interactive and
dependent on your participation. This is an opportunity to share your needs
and priorities as the District constructs its first Citywide Racial Action
Plan, a roadmap for reducing inequities and improving all Washingtonians'
lives.

We invite all DC residents to engage with our various Community Affairs
offices across the District to share your ideas on ensuring all DC
residents have a #FairShot.

Join Mayor Muriel Bowser and the Mayor's Office on African Affairs (MOAA)
in celebrating African Heritage Month this September at the DC Africa
Festival. There will be live music, cultural performances food, arts, and
festivities for all ages.

Each year, as part of MOAA’s Multicultural Awareness and Community Building
Program, the Mayor’s Annual DC Africa Festival is organized to unite
diverse African communities and the wider District community through
African art, culture, food, history, and music. Since its inception in
2010, the DC Africa Festival has fast become one of the District’s most
anticipated cultural events drawing thousands of diverse attendees. The
Annual DC Africa Festival stands as a testament to the unprecedented growth
of the District’s African community. It showcases the burgeoning
contributions this community makes to the nation's capital's cultural,

MOAA and the Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE) Partner for Mayor
Bowser's Solar for All Program [image: Solar]

MOAA and DOEE have entered into a collaborative agreement to help eligible
Limited English Proficient (LEP) and Non-English proficient (NEP) DC
residents enroll in the Solar for All program.

The Solar for All program plays a critical role in the District’s
transition to clean energy by providing access to the benefits of solar
power to low- to moderate-income households. The program is not just for
people who own homes or solar panels. Participants can lower their energy
bills by receiving solar power directly on their roofs or through community
solar if their household income meets the required threshold. The Solar for
All program will help African households save up to $500 annually on
electricity bills.

MOAA will assist constituents in applying for the Solar for All program.

what’s next to sign up for the upcoming job fair and find your fair shot at

an opportunity to claim additional preferences such as District residency,
military service, and foster care as applicable when they submit their
application.

District residents, job seekers, and employers to opportunities and
resources that empower fair, safe, and
effective working communities. DOES, through its Division of State

DOES DSI is seeking qualified organizations to provide job readiness and
life skills training services--- during this phase of workforce development
programming, participants learn about soft
skills essential to their success including, but not limited to effective
communication, conflict resolution, problem solving, recognizing/managing
triggers, team participation, emotional
intelligence, and interview etiquette.
