Friends,
This time of year is often full of activity, and at the DC Dream Center it
is no exception! I wanted to share some highlights from our fall programs
with you.
Our annual All Mentor meeting took place last week, with a meal and time of
sharing. Our mentors meet one to one with their mentees for a minimum of
ten hours a month, for at least a year. We know the value of one to one
investment in a child’s life, and the impact it can have, not only in
grades, but also in confidence and improved interpersonal skills for the
mentee. Our children’s Cooking Class at the Douglas Knoll apartment complex
is another way we are building relationships with children in the
community, as well as teaching them essential life skills.
We want the children in our community to dream big, and we also want that
for the adults! We recently were excited to celebrate 21 graduates from the
Building Futures Pre-Apprenticeship program, hosted at the Dream Center, as
they take the next step in a new career in the trades. Meanwhile our
partnership with Howard University for their opioid outpatient rehab
program has been so successful that we had teams from the University of
Chicago and University of Miami meet with us to hear how to run their own
programs.
As we are preparing for our Thanksgiving basket giveaway, children’s
Christmas party and Santa’s Toy Shop giveaway, please donate to support
