Robert:
Just don't worry about the recent file list.  Tab over to the load program 
button and browse to the file you want.  If you are not hearing anything, make 
sure that when you get the dialog box up after you have selected sfz from the 
insert soft synths menu, that both midi source track and primary audio output 
are checked.
