Hi. A lot of people have had issues with the mr8 in the past. The newer
model might be more reliable. The Tascam 2488 definitely has more features
but you're looking at more cash than The Fostex. It does have wrap around
menus and a lot of dedicated buttons and pots.

Hello List,
I want to get a hard-disk multi-track recorder and I think I would like to
go for the Foztex mr-8 hd. Its an entry level machine and from what I can
gather from various web sites, is low on menus and high on proper pots and
faders etc. Does any one on this list have experiences re hd recorders to
share?
Would appreciate some feedback.
