That won't work in patching effects. I found that out in a real hurry on my new wireless keyboard here. Depending on what you have, the applications key might have to be invoked via a key combination. In my case, it's the FN key with another key. Not knowing what you have, you'll have to find out if your keyboard can do it, and if so, what the key combination for your particular keyboard is.
