I am having really strange issues. Some of my DATs work just fine. While
others will not sync no matter what I do. I am failing in both sonar and
reaper. It's the damnedest thing. As far as I know, all of these DATs our
undamaged.
I have my control panel clock set to as PDF. All the inputs are correct.
Really stuck. I'm on Skype if you have a second.

carried with the connection, so no extra cables are required. This digital
clock is what I was referring to, not wordclock. The control panel should
list this info somewhere, whether the unit is using and sync with an external
clock, or if it's external. You usually want to turn the device sending out
the clock before the other receiving device, though with newer equipment this
is not such a big deal. But on the saffire for example, if you SPDIF, it
expects to receive a clock from the audio source, along with the sample rate.
It then adjusts accordingly.
Note this has nothing to do with sonar and it's clocks, mtc clocks, or word
clock, i'mreferring to SPDIF specificly.

Xavier,
I have sonar, the focus right, and the DAT machine. I do not have a
separate master clock. With this in mind, what is the correct order? There
is no word clock involved here.

Kevin, check clock sources, and make sure the 2 units are in syncn. Remember
with SPDIF sometimes order is important. Since the audio source is usually
the one that hold master clock, turn it on first so it starts sending out a
clock signal, then turn on the saffire a few seconds later, so that it has a
clock to sync to. Be sure that it is in fact using an external clock source
and not internal.

I really need help on this one. I own a DAT Machine which is connected
via
SPDIF to my focus right 18i20. Yesterday, and for a couple days before
then, I was transferring The contents of old DAT tapes into sonar without
any issues.
Today, when I fired up my system to continue making these transfers, I was
on able to record anything at all. I also tried this in Reaper. I should
note that I opened and armed Reaper first, before opening sonar, because I
wanted to save my files as FLAC To save space.
When I was on able to record in reaper, I opened sonar and discovered
that I
couldn't get any content there, either.
For the sake of this discussion, I will stay focused in sonar. Here are
the
things I have done:
I made sure that the track I wanted was assigned to the SPDIF input and
the
master output.
2. Made sure that the track was armed and that input monitoring was
enabled.
3. For the record, I had done the same things in reaper when I tried that
as well.
I know that the tapes have content because I monitored through my
headphones
using the headphone jack on the DAT Machine.
I also have enough vision to see the display on the DAT Machine and saw
the
VU meters registering as the content played.
While this should not have been necessary I also reached back to make sure
that my cables were properly seated. These cables are almost brand-new in
as much as they have almost never been used.
Also made sure that SPDIF what is enabled in my focus right control
panel. I
don't need accessibility I have enough vision to use a mouse when
necessary.
Powered down and rebooted computer twice.
WTF?
Any help greatly appreciated from reaper or sonar or Samplitude users.
Haven't gone to Samplitude yet because I don't think the choice of DAW has
anything to do with this.
