Subject: Confidential - Update On Albert - July 3 2017
Hi everyone,
This is just to let you know that we have heard from CBA who had promised to
provide us with an update by June 30. They have again requested more time to
provide us with detailed information, saying that they are considering
information which is forthcoming from KPMG regarding other accessibility
solutions worldwide. Firstly, we acknowledge that this response is frustrating,
and that CBA are asking for a great deal of flexibility regarding agreed upon
timelines. However, this does also put us at an advantage in that it gives us
more time to prepare our evidence for a court case, should we decide to proceed
with such an action. PIAC and BCA have been working to locate experts on
accessibility who can demonstrate that the Albert does not have an appropriate
accessibility mode. We also feel that although we are discouraging people from
engaging in CBA’s demonstration sessions as they bring out new updates to
Albert, we also need to know exactly how these updates are working so that we
can refute CBA’s arguments that they are improving accessibility. So BCA will
request a private demonstration of these updates to gather the information
about the differences they may or may not make to the user experience. Once the
BCA leadership forum has concluded this coming weekend, we will again
concentrate on developing campaign strategies to put pressure on CBA to come up
with a fully inclusive solution which either makes the Albert truly accessible,
or replaces it completely. We are more than willing to hold a teleconference to
discuss the current state of play this week if complainants feel that this
would be beneficial. If you would like to organise a teleconference, please
contact Rikki in the office. While we are not going to see a quick resolution
to the challenges Albert presents, the more time we have to prepare our
evidence, the better position we will be in, should a court case come to
fruition. Again, just a gentle reminder that all information we discuss either
via email or teleconference must remain confidential. Please don’t hesitate to
contact either Rikki or Emma if you wish to discuss anything further. Kind
regards,Rikki. Rikki ChaplinAdvocacy OfficerBlind Citizens Australia
