Thanks Trudy,
It would be great if we could collect data from a range of Deafblind people

Hello all,
I read a really good description of the problem with accessibility of train
stations in the centre of Melbourne. I’m curious to know about other issues
people who are deafblind have in accessing Melbourne city area. I would like to
write a submission to Melbourne City Council as they are requesting feedback,
so thought I’d check with all of you first. Please let me know your thoughts.
Here is what I read about the train stations.
Flinders Street station lacks adequate TGIs.
Firstly, from the Elizabeth St/Southbank entrance there are no indicators that
lead to the platforms. It's a straight underpass where you have to shoreline
and count the open gaps which are the platforms. It's a similar on the main
Swanston entrance too.
Further there are no indicators from the footpath to the many entrances. There
is one that leads from the traffic light at flinders to the main stairs. But
when you reach the top of the stairs it's no man's land lol.
The ramp entrances only one has a TGI on the inside leading to the barrier.
But nothing on the footpath if you are coming in.
Have a good weekend,
Meredith

Parliament station and Melbourne central have no TGIs going to the escalators.
It's often hard to tell where the many passages are at parliament especially
when it's crowded. I do use the air flow and music as clues but flagstaff has
tactile connecting the the the two opposite platforms.
Melbourne central is atrocious. It has no TGI leading to either of the
accessible barriers. And there is no direct TGI leading to Any of the lifts
beyond the concourse level.

Hi all,
I have just been contacted by PTV to ask whether there are stations that people
routinely have difficulty with due to a lack of tactile ground surface
indicators, or TGSI’s that are poorly designed. They are looking at identifying
up to ten railway stations on the metropolitan network that they want to
investigate and upgrade. If people do have particular stations they would
recommend, could you please reply to me ASAP or call me at the BCA office on
the details in my signature below.
Kind regards,
