Hello all,
I read a really good description of the problem with accessibility of train
stations in the centre of Melbourne. I’m curious to know about other issues
people who are deafblind have in accessing Melbourne city area. I would like to
write a submission to Melbourne City Council as they are requesting feedback,
so thought I’d check with all of you first. Please let me know your thoughts.
Here is what I read about the train stations.
Flinders Street station lacks adequate TGIs.
Firstly, from the Elizabeth St/Southbank entrance there are no indicators that
lead to the platforms. It's a straight underpass where you have to shoreline
and count the open gaps which are the platforms. It's a similar on the main
Swanston entrance too.
Further there are no indicators from the footpath to the many entrances. There
is one that leads from the traffic light at flinders to the main stairs. But
when you reach the top of the stairs it's no man's land lol.
The ramp entrances only one has a TGI on the inside leading to the barrier.
But nothing on the footpath if you are coming in.
