[softwarelist] setting tabs in OPro

Page 61 of OPro manual says:
To set a tab, choose the type of tab you require from the
Tab]Tabs dialogue box [which you get with ^Tab], then click
on the white area of the tab ruler at the required position.
Further clicks on the tab ruler will set more tabs of the
chosen type.
Did that, but nothing appears on the tab ruler for me.
This is whether or not I have some existing text selected when I do
^Tab.
What am I misunderstanding this time?!
OPro 2.77s, RiscPC, OS 4.39.
