Yes, this is an old problem, and not easy for everyone to grasp.  In Pluto
(for the list readers' information) it is easy to "unlink" such a thread
from the article that should be the start of the new thread, and it takes
care of it from then on.

This is something that could perhaps be usefully added to Messenger Pro
one day, and would no doubt be worth suggesting to RComp...
